# How search works

Joonow search brings together jobs from many websites in one place. You can search by job title, company or location and narrow the results with filters, without creating an account.

## The two search fields

- **Job title or company:** type a job title, field, skill or company name.
- **City, state or country:** type where you want to work. Leave it blank to see jobs anywhere.

As you type, suggestions appear with job titles that have open jobs, companies and cities. Your recent searches also show up as suggestions, but they are stored only on your device.

If you prefer, write everything in a single sentence, in your own words. See how that works in [AI search](/en/help/ai-search).

## Country, city and distance

- **Country:** type a country name in the location field ("United States", "USA", "Mexico", "Canada"), with or without accents, to see only its jobs. Joonow brings together jobs from the Americas; on a country's pages, you get a link to the page of the country you typed, and search never switches pages on its own.
- **Distance:** when you pick a city, you can include jobs within 10 to 100 km. It works for every municipality in Brazil and for cities with 15,000 people or more in the other countries of the Americas.
- **Where place data comes from:** Brazilian municipalities come from IBGE, Brazil's statistics office. Cities and states in the other countries come from [GeoNames](https://www.geonames.org/), under the [CC BY 4.0](https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) license; Joonow uses part of the database, with fewer names.

## Filters

The filters sit right above the list:

- **Location:** pick one or more cities or states, or the country.
- **On-site or remote:** on-site, hybrid or remote.
- **Contract:** permanent, part-time, contractor or freelance, temporary, internship and others.
- **Level:** from apprentice to executive.
- **Date:** jobs posted in the last 24 hours or the last 3, 7 or 30 days.

On a phone, each filter opens a panel at the bottom of the screen. As you tick options, the **See N jobs** button shows how many jobs are left, live. **Clear** removes only that filter. The **Filters** panel gathers everything in one place and also includes sorting.

## Sorting

You can sort jobs by **Most relevant**, **Newest** or **Highest salary**. When sorting by salary, jobs without a stated salary go to the end.

## The list and the job details

- **On a computer:** the list is on the left and the selected job appears in a panel next to it. The first job is already open.
- **On a phone:** tap a job to open it full screen. You can move to the previous or next job and apply right from there. The browser's Back button closes the job and takes you back to the list.

More jobs load automatically as you scroll.

## Pages by job title and city

There are also ready-made pages for common searches, such as "customer service jobs in Campinas". They show the open jobs for that title and place and are a good starting point to bookmark or share.
