Company reviews on Joonow are written by people who work or worked at the company and are published without the author's name. This page explains what is published, what isn't, how to request the removal of a review and what we do when a court orders something. The full rules are in the review terms.

Before publishing

  • Every review is moderated. An automatic system (artificial intelligence) points out possible problems and a person on our team decides. Nothing goes online without that decision.
  • We don't publish: people's names or nicknames, a person identifiable by their role (such as "the CFO" or "the owner") criticized as a person, accusations of a crime against someone, personal data (phone, e-mail, ID number, address), insults, offensive language, discrimination, threats, advertising or copied text.
  • Serious facts can be told as experience, without saying who. "There were cases of harassment on the team" or "pay was three months late" describe the job; "manager X harassed me" points to a person and is not published.
  • Accusations against a person and people identifiable by their role are rejected right away, with the reason, and the author can rewrite the review.
  • Joonow never edits reviewers' text. If something needs to change, we reject it with the reason and the author rewrites it. The author is responsible for what they wrote.
  • Reviewers declare that they work or worked at the company and that the text is their own experience.
  • Accounts with a temporary e-mail can't review, and people who manage the company page can't review their own company.

What appears on the site

  • Nothing appears before 3 reviews are published. Until then, the page says "reviews being collected": no rating, no text, no count. That way, no one can tell who wrote a review from the moment it appeared.
  • Companies with up to 50 people: the review shows only the work area (for example, "Finance"), without the job title and without the city.
  • Dates show only month and year. The reviewed company never receives the author's identity.
  • "Verified employee" badge: optional. Reviewers can confirm an e-mail address on the company's domain; we keep only the domain and the date, never the address.
  • Company reply: one per review, in public, and it also goes through moderation. The reply can't identify or hint at who wrote the review.
  • For now, reviews are only available for companies in Brazil.

Fake reviews

Before publishing, we look for signs of paid praise and attacks by competitors: a review sent from the same network or device as someone on the company's team, several accounts on the same network reviewing the same company, accounts created only to review, and many reviews of the same company in a short time (those are reviewed together). Companies can't offer gifts, discounts or any benefit for a review, or pressure anyone to write, change or delete one.

How to request the removal of a review

  • The reviewed company requests it from the company area, under "Reviews".
  • The person mentioned or someone else (a representative, for example), even without an account, uses the removal request form. The request counts after the requester confirms their e-mail.
  • Reasons: exposed personal data, a named or identifiable person, an accusation of a crime, the author never worked at the company, or offensive content.

What happens next:

  1. 5 business days for the decision, counted from the confirmation of the request.
  2. The author is notified by e-mail and can rewrite the review or explain. The requester receives neither the name nor any data about the author, and the author receives neither the name nor the e-mail of the requester.
  3. During the review, the review only goes offline when the request is about personal data or an accusation against an identifiable person. Otherwise, it stays online until the decision.
  4. The decision goes out in writing, with the grounds, to both sides.

Opinions about the work experience stay online. In those cases, the review is kept and removal requires a court order (Brazilian Law 12,965/2014, Marco Civil da Internet, art. 19). Exposed personal data, discrimination and threats are taken down when we are notified.

When a court orders something

  • Court order to remove: we comply when it identifies the review (the page address with the review's #r-).
  • Access records: we keep, confidentially and encrypted, the IP address, the source port and the date and time (UTC) of each submission for 6 months, as the Marco Civil da Internet requires (art. 15). These records are only handed over under a court order (art. 22).
  • Legal hold: when there is a formal removal request, a lawsuit or a court order, the review and the records are kept, encrypted, even if the author deletes the review or the account, until the case ends.

Transparency

Every year we publish a report with the number of reviews received, published and rejected, removal requests (by reason and by decision, including how many were decided on time) and court orders received.
